🔴 NEW DIRECTION   Ed. No. 10 / A LIFESTYLE REVOLUTION HAS BEEN HERALDED BY TELSTRA

THIS COMMENTARY WAS SUPPLIED TO BOTH OPINION EDITORS

OF THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD AND THE AUSTRALIAN 27 MAY 2024

ELECTRICITY SUPPLY: ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF OUR COMPLETE LACK OF PROPER PLANNING
NO VISION = NO FUTURE

Telstra seems to be declaring the start of a lifestyle revolution

with the announcement recently to let go of 2,800 of its staff by the end of the year.

This comes on the tail of them declaring yearly earnings of $A8.2 Billion dollars.

Um, er, the sums don’t seem to add up?

Talk about a world in imbalance.

We’ve been part of a technological revolution now for decades and we should all understand by now that technology was/is meant to make life easier for us. That thinking is no secret.

But just ask the employees of Telstra how they feel at this moment.

Would it be reasonable to say that most of the responses would be unprintable?

I wonder how they will react to their employer?

You can bet any loyalty is going out the window…fast.

No doubt that’s why employers lay off the staff so quickly…rather than plan it all properly over a longer period making it easier for all concerned.

Truth is they don’t trust us just as we don’t trust them. The blame is equal.

We just create such confusion and pain for our own selves.

The problem - lack of ‘trust’.

Technology should ultimately make life more liveable for us creating more leisure time but of course the question is how do we pay for the bills and the leisure when costs keep going up or even worse you don't have a job?

The fault perhaps lays in good part in the fact that we so rarely get the planning right. In fact my discovery after 30 years of trying to convince the spectrum that we need to plan for our future is that we’ll put any barrier in our way to avoid planning.

Is it laziness? Is it that we are so desperate to live in the moment that any thought of future planning is a waste of the NOW?

As Scarlett O’Hara said “After all tomorrow is another day.”

Her whole life though was a completely self created drama.

We humans sure as hell though quite often get the money part of it right.

$A8.2 Billion dollars of Telstra earnings for those whose focus is on the money to paw over.

We do so think that the answer is in having more of everything. BELIEVE ON.

Oh Capitalism is so quickly reaching the end of its shelf life.

No balance in our outlook = No plan = No future or a very dark unknown one.

Talking about the dark reminds of another one of these lack of planning situations. Miners are finding that renewables are replacing the coal. Surprise! Shouldn’t be. We’ve known this has been coming for decades so have the miners. Denial is such a bastard. So where is not only the planning for the readjustment of the individuals caught up with this but also

the co-operation of those same people for the adjustment?

Pointing a finger at your leaders or your company is a paltry and weak excuse for a lack of acceptance of the reality involved and an absence of the courage to move forward. All we do with this immoveable outlook is create things like guilt and fear and anger by not facing the known truths along the way and adjusting ourselves.

People with programmed thinking set in cement won’t even consider the possibility that even though one door may be closing it may well be the best thing that could happen to them freeing them up for other life directions.

In essence our mind is the problem. We are prisoners of its steel like grip.

We need to learn to dig deeper to find a ‘new direction’ that frees us up to the possible opportunities. Where’s the life education programme in this regard?

All humans seem to be good at is "enjoying themselves" because we’re bloody useless at doing anything else. I’m joking but the smiles are wearing very thin at the moment.

Where is the effort on all of our parts to prepare for our own individual and collective futures?

For too many it's a Rhett Butler attitude…"Frankly my dear I don't give a damn"…

...it can all be someone else’s problem. YOU RECKON?

Not in the BRAVE NEW WORLD we are all facing.

The winds of change for both the ignorant/greedy rich and poor alike is upon us all.

At present our future is heading towards being "GONE WITH THE WIND".  - NW

FOOTNOTE
Ii would have been appropriate to have used a romantic pic of Viven Leigh and Clarke Gable in the banner for this commentary
but the greedy world we have created sees ownership of the images claimed by others. No doubt nature will return a balance.
