A Song to the World our Heart.
It must have been inspirational for many people to see CΓ©line Dion on the Eiffel Tower beating out in fine voice Edith Piaf's classic love song "Hymne A L'Amour" (Hymn to Love) to her own heart. The World just shared in the moment. This was the finale to the Opening Ceremony of this year's Paris Olympics.
It was particularly poignant knowing the story of Piaf's life full of ups and plenty of downs and also Dion herself has been dealing with a debilitating illness over some years that has caused her not only to pause her love for singing but has made for her physical incapacitation.
The people of our world are doing it tough at the present and so inspirational moments like this are certainly focussing points to appreciate the human spirit soaring amid the present storm of misfortune, disconnection and unhappiness. Apt that it was raining which as one young French lady rightly said added ambience.
Kelly Clarkson the American Opening Ceremony presenter was speechless after the finale.
She wasn't alone.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who had a lump in their throat. It was a very emotive moment.
That's what the arts can do... with love behind it all.
It was a magnificent finale to what had been a considered and uplifting cohesive patchwork opening ceremony for the Games. A timely exposition of humanity's rising above adversity to celebrate the wonder of the achievement of life itself.
The French certainly do it their way.
In reference to my pic above I more or less knew that my artwork wouldn't be selected for the Sulman Prize Exhibition but I felt it was important to at least have a go. That's what artists do.
We have to hold onto our hope for things to be better.
Thankfully there are a lot of talented people who present challenging standards in our world.
We should all be doing what we have a passion and a love to do. I don't see the point in doing something without "love" and "passion" and have learned how to say no if it is just not there. This most certainly offends. One of the reasons there is so much unhappiness sown by us human beings is in doing things that we have chained ourselves to doing out of bad habit and the wrong reasoning.
The painting I am holding in the pic above itself is a story about the joy in the simplicity of life. Ironically making something/anything simple and clear is a hard thing to achieve requiring some effort and energy on our individual part. I did so enjoy making this art-work.
Life is a mysterious and at times unfathomable journey. It is though made all that much understandable when you feel the passion and love that we witnessed in that nucleus moment emanating from one our world's great symbols the other wet evening.
A whole lot had to come together to make that moment happen.
There can be a beauty in sadness. - Neville π
"Hymne A L'Amour" (Hymn to Love)
[Verse 1]
If the sky should fall into the sea
And the stars fade all around me
For the times that we have known here
I will sing a hymn to love
[Verse 2]
With its memory ever grateful
Just for you, I'll sing a hymn to love
[Bridge]
I remember each embrace
The smile that lights your face
And my heart begins to sing
Your arms, the hands secure
Your eyes that said, "Be sure"
And my heart begins to sing
[Verse 3]
If one day we had to say goodbye
And our love should fade away and die
In my heart you will remain, dear
I will sing a hymn to love
Translated words to the Edith Piaf song
