⚪️🔴🟠🟡🟢🔵🟣⚫️ NEW DIRECTION Ed. No. 76 - BEING 'A BEGGAR ON THE STREET OF LOVE'
Wanting "TOO MUCHIE"
John Howard Davies actor from the feature film "Oliver Twist" (1948) / Director: David Lean (A Directors Director)
We don't want to end up in the poorhouse.
Do we?
I'm wondering when the penny is going to drop across our World that we are going to need to change if we are going to survive let alone thrive in the coming decades? The party rages on. We are consciously unconsciously postponing the inevitable.
Party on we may but the excess is coming to an end.
We've already had dis-ease impacting the whole planet. Warnings have been given time and again about climate change. It's now reality. Accelerated change fuelled by the Technological Revolution while having benefits has also brought with it disconnection, thievery and information overload. Wars, threats and political change have helped create societal breakdown, dysfunction and uncertainty. Not to forget the memory of those many human beings who've lost the most precious thing they had - their lives. Is hope dwindling gradually as discontent grows around our world?
Leaders are facing a real conundrum. If we proceed on the way we are doing consuming and expecting, even feeling entitled, to want more we are damned to feel the crunch eventually. And if leaders emerge who do have the mettle to set down a vision then that always comes with a discipline required to advance us. So very unpopular to those addicted to unshakeable concepts about their expected "freedoms".
I mean many actually even choose to remain ignorant.
That way it is easier to blame someone else when things go wrong.
Knowing the truth means there is no excuse.
I can hear the screams now. But, but, but, but, but.
On "Q&A" ABCTV the other evening qualified speakers were saying that we are living unsustainably. If the Government increases spending even on well meaning supporting programmes to the populace the money has to come from somewhere which means increased taxes or the revenue coming from somewhere else? Yet we are offered tax breaks like kids being handed lollies. Cut the tax cuts for starters. Is our vote/support so easily bought?
We are too caught up in a growing fear and anger epidemic. And that can only be deduced as a result of the aforementioned events. Humanity has gotten ourselves in a right "Oliver Twist". (We need more levity in our lives. Me too! So muchie seriousness?)
And yet we want more. As if more of everything is the solution. Give it a break. More of everything can actually make a person sicker. Certainly more dependent. A bit like an addiction.
Unless we want more leaders like Trump and Putin we're going to need to radically change our values, wants, needs and desires. The problem is we're addicted to a system that if we're truthful with ourselves is no longer working to provide the happiness we seek.
And no matter what we do in life that is the bottom line. Ultimately we want to feel good inside. We've become addicted to the material path as providing the answer.
It hasn't. It won't.
My Mother (92 years of age) often tells me the story of her and her friend Dorothy (95 years of age). They have been friends since early school days. My Mother recalls the real joy they had as kids going window shopping. No money at all to spend. But they laughed together (and still do). They knew how to make their own fun. It was a simple life. Why did we make it so complicated?
THE CHOICE
To be blunt we are going to learn one way or the other how to be 'a beggar on the street of love' to borrow a phrase. A little humility and gratitude goes a long way in a thirsty and oh so needy/greedy world. We've forgotten our true size and place in the bigger picture of things.
Nature rules. Anyway, I'll call it Nature. You can call it what you like but it rules and we follow. Better to be on the side of Nature than exist in a state of head spinning confusion.
That seems to be much of humanity's choice presently?
There's a lot to be said about making a flexible vision to see a clear, solid, balanced and sustainable way forward. Even if our plan changes and evolves a pointer gives us compass and hope in our lives.
We might as well enjoy the journey. Sure we should have a party. The party of life.
Celebrate life!
