"MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND"

We’ve been singing that song since Capitalism was invented.

But as a viable system for our world it is reaching its use by date.

It’s no longer working. But we do so want it to.

I’m not anti-Capitalist. But I am anti-imbalance. The sanity of our world is no longer balanced when so few have so much and so many have so little.

It beggars belief that a minority percentage of population hold a disproportionate amount of the wealth in America. And look at where that’s got them. They’re at each other’s throats.

The song goes “Money makes the world go round”

If it does then what it is doing in our times is generating a world that is spinning itself dizzy on every level.  When so many are grabbing and grasping for it all the frenzy leads to an identity crisis worldwide. We forget who we are. Do we realise how dangerous all of that dependency really is?

The potential for an enormous "low" is being generated. But human nature just doesn’t want to miss out on that chance of having more. The frenzy and resultant fragmentation leads to us all missing out.

Just look at the current queues for gold. It’s value is at a high.

Housing rental and house prices have reached a ridiculously greedy level in Australia.

I paid $A6.30 for a soy latte last week.

This is now a FOMO addicted world.

The clamour for more is becoming a barrier to helping us even to move let alone any notion of  forward. We’ve just created an addiction inside our own heads to covet more of the stuff. And ultimately as we are starting to see it leads to self defeat. It’s not the $$$$$ that's the problem it is our imbalanced desperation for it and misuse of it.

But we continue to believe that the more of it we have the better off we are.

And what does better off mean? Is having more stuff the answer? Not that I can see.

Can it buy you happiness? It might buy a certain physical comfort.

But what’s the point of having all the money in the world if your mind is eating you alive?

Isn’t the thing we all really crave unendingly peace within?

It’s in us deeper than our DNA to be programmed to search for it.

That’s what’s making all the upset. When we don’t find it the absence drives us crazy.

We’re making some terribly bad decisions as a result of our own self confusion.

The current push to increase defence spending across the globe is being driven by masculine energy controlled by its own generated fear factor. The masculine just has to have 'the biggest one'.

Perhaps better decisions would be made if we focussed more on balancing the masculine and feminine energies across our political, corporate, community landscape removing the aggressive decision making and substituting a kinder fairer approach?

I mean with the clarity peace of mind brings a person can make decisions that can move us towards what we want need anyways.

The saying “Big money equals big headaches” has a ring of truth to it.

It’s certainly not the source of happiness. Just ask Australian billionaire James Packer if his financial wealth has actually bought(sic) him happiness.  He’s a candid man.

I fully realise that our addiction to the dollar is so out of control now that this commentary will be dismissed outright by most. I remember even outraging a young man when I burst his fantasy bubble by expressing that his well paid career choice wouldn’t buy him happiness. His envisioned self worth was put under complete threat in hearing that statement and he did not like it. He actually sought revenge when a whole platform of his belief system crumbled under him.

That’s how self delusional our values have become.

Start fiddling with our belief systems and you’ve got yourself a real battle.

We're going to hang on for grim life... And it will be if we don't learn to chill and let go a little.

We've made our head our Master rather than our heart. That needs to change.

The journey towards our better self knowledge should be on the table.

We could be celebrating our own life but are lost in a fantasy bubble disrespecting that same life - left, right and centre.

Isn't it time to re-examine what really makes our world go round?

And the answer is far more than money.

Step off the crazy not so merry-go-round.

Listen to what you feel and not what you think.  Neville

Dear Editor,

HEALTH: THE CANARY IN THE COAL MINE FOR OUR CIVILISATION

How did we get here? ("Mum and I had a night in hospital: We saw a system in crisis” Herald Opinion October 11)

It is fatiguing no doubt for patients, carers, family members and health professionals all round.
Falls, infections, emergencies of one sort or another is all standard fare in an ageing world.

The latest crisis for my 93 year old Mum is finding an available visiting GP who will come to an aged care facility.
I’ve even taken to placing a double column ad in the Herald classifieds that encouraged absolutely zero response.

It just beggars belief that our health services have made a slide towards “crisis”. Why?
Surely it must have something to do with a changing values system across our society.

If we can’t realign our values to be able to care for the most vulnerable then our future as a civilisation is under threat.
I am not the first to start ringing these alarm bells.

The health system must be (along with education) the canary in the coal mine for our whole way of life.
We need to get it right for our own balanced sane well being as a civil society.

Kind regards,

Neville Williams
