RECOGNISING THE LADY
WHO LIVED NEXT DOOR

World Happiness Report
"Australians and Americans have been getting more miserable"
- Alan Kohler
ABC NEWS 23/4/26
Also too Mr. Kohler mentioned that China is increasing in its happiness.
Would that be because we in the West have reached a zenith of experiencing Capitalism and are on the cusp of actually starting to understand that happiness is not an attribute of matter? Whereas the Chinese have done it so tough over so many generations that any increase to their material accumulation is something of a novelty and so makes them that bit happier???
I dunno ya know!
I had an interesting experience the other day that alludes towards why we might be becoming unhappier.
Recently in the "Celebration of life" honouring my late Mother I wanted to recognise "the lady who lived next door". This lady used to drop in on my Mother regularly and did enjoy sharing the company and conversation with Mum (and me).
That lady passed away about 12 months back.
I never saw her with any visitors other than her carer.
She was not alone in being alone.
She was not alone in being alone.
Many residents at the aged care home simply never got a visitor.
I couldn't for the life of me remember her name.
I couldn't for the life of me remember her name.
I asked around with people who might remember her and came up with nought.
We had forgotten her.
I wracked my consciousness for days but still no name came to the surface.
I don't feel bad about this or blame anyone but it does seem to be a sad commentary on our speedy, shallow and information crammed lives?
Disappointing that a person can't remember someone who was a regular participant in our world community and is now forgotten in the human race to where? Perhaps this speaks to how far we have drifted from our humanity having taken a far more important status than what it does now.
The drift is so subtle but it is happening.
The drift is so subtle but it is happening.
We have now too legitimised the most coarse descriptives and inhuman treatment of each other (e.g. the current war in the Middle East). This really is disturbing and alarm bells should be ringing loudly for affirmative action before we really do lose the plot of any sensibility for the value of human life.
When we lose sight of the value of ourselves then what hope is there for us? - Neville Williams
PS The comments here are not a reflection of the care given to the residents of my Mother's Village. They can't make people visit the elderly. It was all round a pretty good place. In the bigger picture of things though it would be nice to see more of us more happy.
It's up to all of us to make a better world.
It's up to all of us to make a better world.

"Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
(Because I'm happy)
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do..."
Song by Pharrell L. Williams ‧ 2014
