[DEAR EDITOR, I UNDERSTAND COPY IS RESTRICTED TO 150 WORDS FOR ‘THE SATURDAY PAPER’ LETTERS. IF I AM SAYING ANYTHING WORTHWHILE HERE I’M SURE IT WILL RISE TO THE SURFACE. THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY. - Neville ]

IT’S TIME FOR A CLEAN OUT AUSTRALIA

Peter Dutton examples ambitions and drives that really do get a person thinking about the political class mindset generally. (“ ‘More reactive…more suspicious’: Dutton sharpens focus on teal seats” Front page, The Saturday Paper, Jan. 18-24, 2025)

To the point the political class are clearly not giving us a balanced overarching social and economic vision forward so we need to change the way we are governed. They have abrogated this responsibility for far too long.

Politicians know that the electorate is full of those lulled into an outlook of ...
“I want it all NOW and as easy as possible please”.

Any wholistic vision forward requires commitment, application and work. Saying that to an electorate that has become weak and spineless (and that’s a truth like it or not. Even Joe Biden alluded to this in recent times.) is waving a red rag at a bull particularly in a major cost of living crisis*. Our elected political leaders know this no matter what party they belong to.

No, if the major parties can’t present to us what we need to hear rather than what they think we want to hear then it is up to us to change the system. I just wish more citizens would shake themselves out of the fantasy that some superhero is going to sweep out of the sky and solve our problems for us. Vis a vis America. Hopefully we have got more sense than them?

It is time for both the Liberal and Labor parties to go and be replaced by a community of leaders such as the Teals and more Independents who can work together. My vote will go to individuals who can demonstrate strength, capacity, resilience, tenacity and something called talent.

Too many of the current crop of politicians fulminate in a convoluted bureaucratic swill of gamey oneupmanship. It is too often BS. What they seem good at is treading water and playing their distracting games for their own self serving narrow short term agendas and/or vested interests. They hide from what they can’t or won’t change in ‘clever speak’. I think in our ‘post truth’ world that is known as diplomacy. Time for a clean out Australia.

We are responsible for our own future.
Lying nervously on Bondi Beach thinking that it is all going to go away is just living in a fools paradise. That tsunami of change that we are working so hard to ignore is now upon us.

The same can be said for the Union Movement. In a world that must learn to live more sustainably the Rail, Tram, and Bus Union (RTBU) seems determined in leading the way for the Union Movement generally to be declared redundant. Approval of a 32% pay rise claim when train drivers are receiving around $120,000 salary is just creating the benchmark to lead lemmings over a cliff.

We no longer can afford what we want.
Western Civilisation is positioning itself to end up the way of the Ancient Romans, Egyptians and Greeks before us. We must divorce ourselves from our wants and become married to our needs if we want a survivable let alone sustainable world. Otherwise nature will work it out for us.

Could someone please tell Peter Dutton he’s dreaming.

Regards, Neville Williams

*We even brought this on ourselves with our own “FOMO - Fear of Missing Out” post Covid when we all needed to employ self discipline to pull our belts in and walk it through.

A SIMILAR LETTER HAS BEEN SENT TO THE OPINION EDITORS OF
THE AUSTRALIAN NEWSPAPER, THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
& THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD.

ADDENDUM
Does anyone BUT ANY ONE in our political class
have an original creative idea that they can get up and going?
Anything with a long term approach that doesn’t play to vested interests
or short term band aid solutions?

I mean anything that is a grand perhaps a sweeping plan that might point us in a considered direction here in Australia? Anything that is wholistic balancing economic and social needs? Anything that might capture the Australian electorate’s interest perhaps even informed participation?

NOPE?

So what is a JAMBAROO?

A JAMBAROO is what YOO make it to be.

It is a peculiarly human creation
where people contribute what they can responsibly
to point our world in a conscious creative direction.

It is a place to reflect on where we've been, who we are now
and what we want to be.

JAMBAROO is a one off creation where our humanity seeks to reconnect with our larger world environment, each other but most of all within ourselves.

It is a place of education and discovery.
A place of reconciliation of differences.
A place to address sustainable living in our lives.

It is a World Expo but not a World Expo in the historical sense.
Time to do things a little differently.
A JAMBAROO is a uniquely hosted Australian creation inviting our world to participate in a Celebration of life.

Celebrate life!

An answer to the question
why should we invest the time,
energy and money into a Sydney World Expo
when we are now experiencing such difficult social and economic times...PRECISELY.
