A WORLD UNIVERSITY OF THE ENVIRONMENT IN SYDNEY

Currently we have a great hole in the ground at Homebush Bay in Sydney that is the protected home of the Green and Golden Bell Frog. This location is immediately adjacent to where the infrastructure for the 2000 Sydney Olympics exists.

This is an area of Sydney that seems to be in constant evolution.

More recently there has been a suggestion to place a racecourse in this hole in the ground. There would be commercial gains if this were to happen. This seems to be the imperative for Western Societies across the globe. As long as it pays for itself is a mantra that perhaps we have taken too far.

I’ve been doing a bit of predicting lately (though I’m no soothsayer). What’s the bet that Capitalism has had its day and our addiction to the almighty dollar is actually now working against us in our endeavours to create wellbeing amongst us?

The sums are not adding up to “happiness” and our determination to maintain the status quo of a capitalist path will only make us sicker.

Rather than us whack yet another band aid short term solution to filling the hole in our hearts at Homebush Bay perhaps we should be tweaking our thinking towards a long term plan for the future?

Our future is a sustainable one with our better stewardship of the earth we stand on. So it would seem a sensible path to create a Sydney World Expo utilising the Brickpit for the Australian representation showcasing/educating a way forward.

The eventual intent is to finally evolve the location into a “World University for the Environment” jointly run under the auspices of the United Nations and administered by the NSW Government (Financially sustainable). The World sends its best here to meet and learn.

This would certainly be a commitment towards a long term plan for our future.

Does that make sense?  - Neville ☺︎
