PUTTING THE PIECES OF OUR FUTURE TOGETHER
TO MAKE A CLEAR PICTURE
So what about a solution?
If we can accept a conventional wisdom that the first step in solving a problem is to face up to the fact that there is a problem then we’re on the starting plate. Currently though there doesn’t seem to be enough who are prepared to see that they might be part of the problem.
We’re fighting a war against our own individual selves. Are YOO winning?
Last week I took myself along to see the current movie “CONCLAVE”. The story is about a conclave of Cardinals who are hold-up in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican electing a new Pope from amongst themselves. What drama!
One by one the front runner Cardinals are shot down from their lofty perches by their own human fallibilities. They all certainly aspired to be virtuous and closer to their God and that’s to be admired. Some of them were quite shocked to face the truth about themselves.
And these were Cardinals.
An unexpected ending and probably too the best person got the job.
We do so get fixated in our own pre-programmed mindsets.

The driving force within each of us is to find home. We just go about it in all too often an ego driven way ending up lost, confused and angry or resentful - shut down. We do that to ourselves in our own want to be fulfilled. Is it that the far greater numbers of us project onto our planet that it is someone or something else being responsible for what is mostly our own created unhappiness or feeling of emptiness?
If more actually could face their own truth, find the courage, the scruples, the humility, the backbone (whatever you want to label it) we’d be on our way to solving the problem of our disconnection from ourselves.
Too many want to think they know it all rather than being ‘a beggar on the street of love’. While ever the majority are holding back on moving forward then we’re keeping ourselves prisoners to our own pain en masse.
It is within this current world context that I put forward the human symbol of the proposed Sydney World Expo…. A monumental statue of “The Spirit of Bennelong”.
I’m not even going to try to justify this proposal here.

We are so far away from this ideal as to be on another planet Janet.
And I’ve got better things to do with my breath currently.
It just feels right to me.

JUST A FEW DETAILS
The monumental sculpture would be 52m tall.
This is roughly equivalent to the length of an Olympic swimming pool.

'The Spirit of Bennelong' would be made from a steel frame with a corrugated aluminium skin.
The sculpture would be constructed like a Meccano set in sectioned pieces that could be stacked on one another. This is desirable for ease of shifting him.
We’ve got ourselves here a moving Bennelong.

After his inaugural prominent presence on the perimeter of the Australian representation at the Sydney World Expo he would be dismantled and ferried up Sydney Harbour on a huge barge. He would then be re-assembled at Garden Island Dockyard (where there is currently a basic lookout on the Point). By this time the site would be evolved into a permanently shared Overseas Passenger Shipping Terminal with the Australian Navy who currently occupy the site.
‘The Spirit of Bennelong’ welcomes visitors to these shores at the front door to the Nation along with the Harbour Bridge and opera house.
If we were really adventurous/generous in spirit for these gender parity times we would also have a monumental sculpture of Bennelong’s partner “The Spirit of Barangaroo” at Barangaroo Reserve, Sydney Harbour to balance things out. - Neville ☺︎
