THE GOLD, GOLD, GOLD, AUSTRALIA
I've heard it said more recently that now we have the Internet it makes World Expos less attractive.
Has the high profile of World Expos and the Movement itself fallen away or is it simply that Australia has lost interest in anything other than sporting events, the ogle-fest of TV's "Married at First Sight" and the economy money?
I believe the powers that be, certainly in Australia, regard Expos as nothing more than “fairy floss”. Perhaps in part that’s the result of “too muchie macho” energy running Australia?
Are we now a shallow taking society?
It can also be argued that while the immediacy of the internet is one advantage it is also an impediment. Are people feeling disconnected for that very reason? Everything has become too fast. Information and change is now coming at us so fast that there isn't the space to process that information/change, enjoy and so better understand what is happening in and around us.
Nothing beats the live experience of being there.
And yes too sometimes things need to be done in a different way.
Having the same people do things the same way time and again becomes, well, predictable even boring.
Naturally all Nations, Corporates and individuals want to be seen in their best light.
My question is though have Expos become just too saccharine? And yep doing the hard yards and facing truths about ourselves is not easy work.
That's the difference between the current Expo mindset and what is being proposed here with a SYDNEY WORLD EXPO i.e. Australia's JAMBAROO®.
Just a little caution here.
Sometimes we need to stop and look before we leap.
[The 1964/65 New York World's Fair people went it alone following a fall out with the BIE - Bureau International Expositions (the current world body overseeing Expos). It was not pretty. But it certainly ended up being a different and memorable Expo.
By the way according to Wikipedia, Australia is no longer listed as a member of BIE.]
At Australia's JAMBAROO® participants need to show what they are doing to provide balance and self improvement in their own backyards.
I mean if we can't get our own backyards together what hope is there for the planet?
Australia's JAMBAROO® might be considered a one off, something unique in a tired world. If you remember correctly the Sydney 2000 Olympics had come along when the Olympic Movement was in bad shape. People felt the Movement had been compromised.
It was not popular. Sydney's Olympics restored faith on the World stage to a tired entity. Perhaps it is time Sydney attempted something similar with the Expo Movement?
I'm just asking questions here.
We have to be braver and honest and look deeper.
People across the planet are not listening to the same old same old. - Neville ☺︎
