CREATIVITY, ORIGINALITY, CURIOSITY

ENGAGEMENT, ATTENTION, RESPONSE

(Some things Artists/Creatives can bring

to much in our world that is lacking.)

First time round I deleted the invitation from the City of Sydney to comment on their 'community strategic plan' as part of the City's 2050 Vision. Then they made a second contact. So OK here’s my comment.

It would be true to say that the City of Sydney is probably in the top handful of Local Councils in Australia for doing a pretty good job all round. And in no small way this has something to do with the leadership of the long serving Lord Mayor Clover Moore. The reason Clover is re-elected consistently is because she with the Council do the job and well, quite thoroughly.

I sing praise not only for them creating a practical vision but getting on with the job of enacting what they can.

But where’s the imagination, flair, panache, style, creativity, originality, curiosity and so forth? Sure the policies and bullet points i.e. the nuts and bolts are there but like all Government instrumentalities whether Sydney Local, NSW Government or Federal Government imagination is missing in action.

That is what Artists/Creatives can bring to worthwhile efforts of vision creation.

Where is the spark that lights the flame? What seems to be missing in these bureaucracies and their so called “Visions” is a simple overarching or bridging idea that captures the imagination across the community spectrum being able to be communicated in a way that lights peoples want to participate.

We seem to have made ourselves a world that is full of highways and byways and rules and regulations and policies and all of the yada yada yada but lacks the spark of life. Any vision worth its salt needs to have at its core a celebration of our own life and a want to understand ourselves better.

Where have we gone missing in all of the action?
I mean the two major parties at a Federal level of Politics in Australia are keeping us asleep with their droning absence of any real creative pointer forward that we can understand.

I suppose that is what happens when you make ‘Economics’ the foundation of our well being.

But I’m not going to be too hard on the politicians or bureaucracies because we the people created them. In their dream like state the people have accepted as our Saviour what can’t give them what they want. Happiness is not an attribute of matter.
Politicians aren’t showing leadership they are just reacting to what the masses think they need. Where did our spine go?

Perhaps Trump is there not before time? I couldn't vote for him but from his painful pontificating actions will come at least the possibility of the openings of new beginnings. He represents a mirror image to what exists in much of our human nature today. I read in a newspaper article that by head count half the population of America plus 6 million others voted for him. Seems pretty clear. Pity that humanity allows a wrecker to do the work…and looking at the historical big picture this is usually what happens.

Take the risk, find artists who know what they are doing to create pointers towards a better world of well being. Listen to them, support them and act.

And that most certainly does require courage. - Neville ☺︎
