⚪️🔴🟠🟡🟢🔵🟣⚫️ NEW DIRECTION   Ed. No. 81 - MAKING A BETTER YOO

IT CAN START WITH A LINE ON A CANVAS

(This signature headline above has been appearing in my blogs
for some time now. Let's address it.)

GREAT EXPECTATIONS...

A blank canvas can be a very confronting thing*.
Where do you start to find YOO?

Changing our lives and knowing ourselves better must be the hardest thing for anyone to try to do. I am going to put into practise what I have been preaching now by doing an exercise for myself.

I have been saying how complex my life has become since Covid visited us.
"Too muchie" change.
I want my life to be more simple.

As I am an artist I am going to visualise a place where I'd like my future to be by painting a metaphorical picture. That's a language I understand.

I am aware that we can have all the dreams we like but ultimately life takes its own course. It's good though to have a starting point and at the same time understand that flexibility is a necessity for facing reality and avoiding disappointment.
Great expectations equals great disappointment.
No expectations no disappointment. Maybe even a pleasant surprise!

Too many people get locked into a prison of life having to be the way they think it should be or will it to be and, well, life doesn't work that way. Wouldn't a lot of the unhappiness in our world be traceable back to a dream that for whatever reason did not happen for someone?
Thoughts of the sad and tragic Miss Havisham come to mind.
Helena Bonham Carter as the tragic Miss Havisham from Charles Dickens "Great Expectations"
(2012 film)

We don't control life it controls us.
When that breath goes away so do we.
So accepting the old line of "going with the flow" has tangible meaning. For me it means letting myself enjoy the journey with all of its ups and downs. Getting our premeditated ideas/stubbornness and "Shuffling it off to Buffalo" is a good starting point.

We might commence the artwork with a simple line on a chosen canvas (as pictured above). This will be followed with the canvas being blocked in by a wash of colour.

The Story I am going to write visually is one about a home on a hill amongst the trees with a clear blue sky and an imagined pristine vista across our world. That's quite a statement I just made and something of a challenge too.
Vision is one thing. Making it reality is another.

I'd like this painting to be an inspiration to "have a go, Australia"... "have a go, World".
A little hope helps.
And too some conscious effort is required.

Let's see through these blogs over the next short while how it all goes? - Neville ☺︎

*   You can paint over an existing painting too. It doesn't need to be a pristine white canvas.
If you can let some of the underpainting through it can make for a composition with an interesting depth to it.
