SIMPLICITY
The addition of two stencils of a home and seven palm trees more or less completes this artwork about seeking simplicity in life. I’ll put the canvas aside and look at it for a while. Perhaps the sunlight needs to be made more prominent or perhaps it is just fine as it is?
We’ll see.
It is the time for a little reflection here. No rush.
COMPLEXITY
So while putting this artwork addressing “simplicity” to one side I feel I should address in a complementary artwork the “complexity” that seems to be prevalent in many lives at this time. I will use the same theme of the same home on the same hill to address this complexity in life.
If my initial artwork represented a new dawn then its partner work will be a dusk painting.
We need to say goodbye to old ways of seeing and doing.
We’ve just had Federal elections in Australia and if anything illustrates complexity in life it would have to be politics. We can certainly get ourselves in a muddle over our differing views of life and how to deal with its challenges.
What a discomforting time for so many experiencing such a disillusioned, sad, fearful, angry, confused state. My feeling is though that in Australia we are still relatively OK compared to much of the rest of the world. There seems to be some sensibility in the air here.
It is probably just as well that the Labor Party won a landslide victory in the Australian Federal Elections because we’re running on empty and are looking to be filled. This can be very shaky ground to be standing on for any society. Stability is paramount.
Politics by its historical nature is combative. And this is an unsustainable indulgence and always has been a cheap behavioural distraction from getting on with making hard decisions.
If we want to remain a pluralist society then we need to move in a broad AND flexible direction creatively. We are burning ourselves out holding on with white knuckle fear to all of our competing nonsensical differences, beliefs, ideas and values.
What we are each facing is a choice not just in Australia but across the Globe. We can choose to make a clear picture and walk this vision forward or have our future forced onto us by others.
I am saying something that for most is most uncomfortable.
We need to discipline ourselves. For starters a clean up is needed.
Too many want someone else to solve their problems for them.
That age has now passed and we are required to stand on our own two feet no matter what our background.
In Australia there is a lot of conversation about why the now Liberal Opposition Party was so resoundingly defeated. I might as well add my tuppence worth.
The Liberals were decimated and have been left an even less effective rump than they were at the previous election three years past because they no longer know who they are.
They got lost. Wrong choices.
Their idea of who they are has become fantasy.
The Liberal Party actually do have a values statement but they are not living it or interpreting it in a balanced way. They’ve gotten confused thinking that money and power and winning is what it is about for its own sake. The facade they were presenting could not hide their own self serving natures. When you’re off people can smell you. The Liberal Party is too heavily weighed down by too many career politicians and not enough with a genuine nose to the wheel determination both individually and collectively to serve something better.
The ‘born to rule’ set have brought themselves down to earth by their own disconnection from nothing more than themselves. Largely humanity is doing the same thing. Those at the extremes are the first to go though as we have seen with the Liberals (and Greens too).
I should think that in Nature’s clean up that is now in process anyone or group that doesn’t have a balanced view or is at least aspiring towards better understanding themselves is in the cross hairs of nature doing its natural job i.e. restoring a balance to the creation.
We must seek out simplicity and clarity if we are going to survive as a cohesive society.
The simple choice that its definitely not simple is making for ourselves a home of light.
Isn’t the alternative choosing to walk a destructive path through a House of increasingly dark shadows and a garden full of weeds? Are we facing a new dawn or a sad sunset?
People have so many different ideas about filling the void and what they are entitled or due. This is dangerous in uncertain times. I question too many a world citizen’s motivations that are built on the shifting sands of taking rather than giving. Too muchie we even convince ourselves that we are giving when in truth we have manipulated our own self interest behind a masquerade that is actually taking.
My second artwork is about us discovering simplicity by letting the sun go down on our old world and making the space for a new outlook. That starts within inside our own selves.
That doesn’t need to be something that is sad.
Surely it can be enlightening making space for letting in something better?
I hope my expressions help in some way.
My writings or artwork(s) though won’t be what changes your outlook.
But your own experienced thirst for life will. Choose wisely your path.
And only you can choose the walk you make.
