It was of no surprise to hear from various news sources that productivity in Australia is “down”.
Productivity is something that is creative.
How can we be creative when we are facing so much shite in our lives? And that is what is happening. The Post Covid backwash has forced all sorts of barriers in our pathway forward.
The creative process (productivity) requires clear and open space whether that be inside or outside of us. We’re not going to get productivity back until we’ve cleared the log jam of our disappointments and ignorances.
I’m finding exactly the same problem trying to complete a portrait of my dear old Mum. Sheesh! Can any more barriers/distractions be put in the way? And I am also finding at this time that if you have something you WANT OR NEED to do in your life it requires enormous self will to make the space to do it. More recently I actually had to order myself to make and complete two paintings if for no other reason than to demonstrate to myself that I could still create amongst all of this currently shitty foment we are calling a culture.
But it’s a clever little game that is going on I think between the light and the dark in all of us. There’s two realities. You can choose to enjoy life...and be kind firstly to yourself and also others. Or you can choose to be a misery guts.
I needed to take my Mother to the Doctor’s the other day and it is not easy for her now to do all of this but I said to her at the end of the day…
“You know we actually had a really pleasant day. We may have met at least 12 people today (probably closer to twenty) and every single one of them were kind and warm, friendly and helpful." She agreed. One Christian lady in the Doctor’s lobby who got talking to us even formally blessed Mum. I said to Mum "Look God even blessed yoo today.” She laughed.
She is blessed. A colourful and dignified lady.
For every rotten apple there are at least twenty others who are bright and shiny.
What’s that old saying…”You get back what yoo give out”.
It’s true. Make the choice to Celebrate life.
I note too that Jim Chalmers the Australian Federal Treasurer (Pic adjacent) is in the next few weeks holding what looks to be shaping up to be an important “Productivity” Roundtable (or tax summit?). I trust my perceptions of people enough to say that Jim Chalmers is one of those shiny apples. He’s worth listening to. He’s in a position to help get life (productivity) flowing again. He simply is a fair, kind, humane and talented human being who places our humanity in a respectful position.
Good subject for next time “Learning to listen”…
... to those worth listening to. - Neville ☺︎
