"WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR..."
THE BENNELONG STAR [Digitally enhanced]
(From the artwork “OUR FUTURE: STOP, LOOK & LEAP")
Artist: Neville Williams ©️Arts Law Australia
THE WHOLE ARTWORK IS A ‘BATON’ (OR KEY).
WHEN WE HAVE ENOUGH COLLECTIVE HEART, IMAGINATION,
COURAGE, FOCUS, ENERGY AND COMMITMENT
TO PICK UP THIS BATON AND RUN WITH IT
THEN WE CAN CALL OURSELVES PROPERLY A NATION.
PASS THE BATON ON.
Dreams are a dime a dozen.
Making them a reality is hard work.
And getting your heart *involved. Well!
That is one life long journey.
*For starters that line should read “And getting involved with your heart.”
Walt Disney’s hugely successful creative entrepreneurship manifest a most joyous fantasy of his version of how things might be in our world. The tome on his life ‘WALT DISNEY’ by Neal Gabler is a read about someone who was certainly a driven creative force.
Creating Walt Disney’s magical world view though was tough going for him. From the start he had a difficult Father who paradoxically may have been the mentor who instilled in Walt (brutally so) his drive, discipline and determination.
Mr. Disney though seemed to have the gift of a foundational effusively childlike nature which gave his endeavours an infectiousness that drew others to his cause. But there is always the shadow. His own and others. He had to face “real world situations”… people who disappointed him with staff industrial problems, broken business deals, managing many and varied walls of bureaucratic thinking.
He must have had superhuman strength to face it all. Yep driven.
Songs from his movies such as the Oscar winning “When You Wish Upon a Star” (Pinocchio 1940) and his favourite “Feed the Birds” (Mary Poppins” 1964) give you in snapshot his philosophy or outlook on life. He was a dreamer all right. And you can certainly feel the message in those songs if you have the openness to hear.
He couldn’t understand why though he was put through industrial action by employees who wanted more. Through his eyes he was creating one big happy family with his studio.
And he wanted people to be happy.
But you can’t make people happy no matter how many Disneylands you might want to create. People have to find their own pathway.
In a big picture sense though he was only creating an illusion.
His imagined Nirvana.
And one person’s idea of happiness can be another person’s version of hell.
Everyone has their own ideas of how they will find their happiness.
And those ideas are twisting our world in knots particularly at present.
We have to ask ourselves what’s behind all of those dreams?
The “star” that Jiminy Cricket “wished upon” in Pinocchio is inside us all not in the heavens. The line from the classic song that really has a message for me is “If your heart is in your dream”. That is all that matters. Because “if your heart is in your dream” your dream will be tempered by R-E-A-L-I-T-Y.
Anything else is just your own fantasy. An expression of ego which is a taking force.
That is not in the nature of your heart.
The next line in the song is “No request is too extreme”. Oh we do want soooo very much. May I repeat fantasies both realised and unrealised are causing much heartache in our world today. We can dream as long as we realise the difference between dreaming and reality.
If your heart is running your show you’ll get what you need rather than what you want. Learning how to enjoy that is the art of life. Time to get real. Neville
When You Wish Upon a Star
By Ned Washington / Leigh Harline
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfilment of
Their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true
Certainly words to reflect upon. Simple, heartfelt, clear.
FOOTNOTE:
WE'LL HAVE A BETTER WORLD
WHEN RATHER THAN US BEING CAUGHT UP
IN OUR OWN FANCIFUL DREAMS
WE'LL BE SELF AWARE ENOUGH TO ACCEPT THE THINGS
THAT OUR LIFE KNOWS WILL BENEFIT US.
SO WHO'S NOT DOING THEIR JOB? WOULDN'T THAT BE MOST OF US? - N.
