⚪️🔴🟠🟡🟢🔵🟣⚫️ NEW DIRECTION   Ed. No. 139 - ANOTHER FINE MESS

“Well here’s another fine mess we’ve gotten ourselves into.”

Headline paraphrases Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy from their short film “Another Fine Mess” (1930)

THIS NEO-JURASSIC WORLD CIVILISATION

This week's blog is more an essay than an opinion.
What is being written about though warrants the volume here.
The subject is your and our survival.

_____

My Taylor Square "Darlo" Doctor reminded me casually the other day of the vision I had proposed to present on Oxford Street, Sydney leading into Mardi Gras. This vision was envisaged to take the form of a formal presentation and fine art exhibition on a reasonably large ground floor area at one of the three handsomely renovated period buildings now approaching completion along the Golden Mile (See PIC following).

My Doctor received from me a kind of melancholic Laurel & Hardy bemused and benign look in response.

I tried for around 30 years. I am now spent. And so too are many others.

We possess unrealistic expectations now that are through the roof.

Good luck in finding your Superman or Superwoman.

"Dreams though are a dime a dozen. Making the dreams reality now that's the hard part."

It all takes energy, focus, time, planning, money and most importantly by far the right co-operative spirit to realise successfully this or any other project. And, well, not only do I not possess these elements presently neither does our larger world.

Now I’m not talking about half baked here. I’m talking about something that is given the status, support and wholistic realisation it deserves. We’re currently stuck in mediocre mode in our world. Anything more than middling seems anathema. Too much of what we’re attempting in these times ends up meaning and doing nothing more than to put ‘lipstick on a pig’. It's just surface gloss, absent of life.

What’s the point doing anything unless it is going to make a worthwhile impact?

Oh sure money is still “buying” action presently in our world. Lots of it. …

We have made it our God.

We bow down to it.

We make ourselves tiresomely a slave to it.

We’ll break into the Louvre for it.

We’ll scam harmless old people for it.

We’ll rob a bank for it.

We’ll kill for it.

We’ll corrupt our own self value for it.

We’ll put it above everything else just to have more of it.

It’s pretty much all we ever hear about these days. Money money money.

It is one of the major blocks infecting our thinking. And the thinking is that it will give us WHAT WE WANT from life…More is never enough.

It won’t do the trick.

And why? Because it just takes a whole lot more than money to make the world go round.

Without a foundation of something solid we are just building houses of cards that are sooner or later going to fail. Those houses are falling as I write this. It won’t help to name the houses. Their lack of self awareness is bringing about their “own goal” failures and ultimate demise. No help from here needed.

One of the gifts of being an artist (if you are at least making some effort) is a degree of clarity to be able to see through the facade this world likes to present.

It just ain’t genuine presently. People are putting on Oscar worthy performances but take off the masks and there is a desperation even fear.

Real, deep, foundational shaking fear about our future.

It was American President Franklin D. Roosevelt who said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. Evergreen wisdom there.

I was somehow given the opportunity to present the proposal for my mentioned exhibition to a Senior Government Official and I appreciated her candid response to me. This response was along the lines that we can’t do everything and if the community wants something it can too always mount projects itself. AND SHE IS RIGHT. We're over governed leading to a dependency on our big brothers or sisters. We are like suckling piglets to the three strands of Government here in Australia. We are chock full to bursting of expectations of what they are going to do for us. Spoilt little piggies. Oink!

Our Governance too is set in the cement of its own making which finds itself no longer able to respond to a New World need. The entire systems of our Government & Private structures are outdated and due for reinvention for our times.

I’m wondering if we are arriving at a kind of ‘end of days’ scenario?

Is our civilisation all just accelerating towards its last breaths bogged down in its own blow hard self serving machinations?

Do we ever stop to reflect on why our greater humanity is now so desperately unhappy or perhaps what we might actually do to reverse this unhappiness? Not a wink. But we do so have in default placement a long history of gearing for war to obliterate the perceived problem. And we’re doing it again.

How many billions would you like to contribute to your own extinction?

Domineering, aggressive, competitive, masculine energy had its day and has failed. Time for more of the feminine.

Our very own collective state of mind is like one of those great groaning lumbering beasts from the latest franchise movie ‘JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH’. A massive out of control neanderthal slow motion come down slamming flat the status quo.

It’s all reached its use by date folks.

Here’s an artist’s call.

Without a concerted co-operative approach by Government, Corporates and Community to give us hope by pointing the civilisation in a NEW DIRECTION our world as we know it is going to go under and probably in most of our lifetimes.

I do so hope I am wrong. But it's not looking good.

This is all big picture stuff we're talking here.

Something that most have no interest in whatsoever.

That’s because we’ve been trained like performing seals to want it all now.

Planning doesn’t even enter our vocabulary.

“You mean we might actually have to do something long term?”

We’re all so tied up in our own self importance. But are we all that important in the greater picture of nature? We’ve forgotten our true size and place on the planet and it looks like we’re being reminded of it.

Nature does its job of putting back everything in its rightful place.

Presently our humanity is like a square peg in a round hole. We’re not fitting.

And paradoxically we’re the ones bringing about the correction by our own disconnection from our own deeper natures! Somehow we decided to swim at the shallow end of the pool and make our Head our Master. Bad choice.

The collective out of self control mindset is confounding us.

My proposed fine art exhibition was to be a backdrop supporting six of our outstanding proven leaders to each present their “Commitment Statements towards our Future” each message being designed to help provide hope and direction to the wider world community and a springboard to a larger world participating project.

But here’s the truth. No leader who has their feet on the ground is going to risk doing anything unless they know they will have enough people behind them with the right attitude and commitment.

And as world citizenry we are all over the place smashing up the planet with our own cripplingly destructive individual programmes of self entitlement.

To paraphrase Laurel & Hardy from their short film “Another Fine Mess” (1930) “Well here’s another fine mess we’ve gotten ourselves into.”

Well I got all that off my chest. I feel just that bit lighter.

It is not my place to carry the burden of you. That is your job.

And that’s the message that somehow needs to be communicated across the spectrum.

That is what our leaders have to find the courage to say to their selfishly self serving populations. …as a second step. We need ‘reconnection’ on the agenda as the third.

But the first step is us waking up to the fact that we have a problem Houston, us

We can't move anywhere unless we understand and accept that first step.

We’ve manufactured a world running on emptiness stretched thin with a veneer of falsity.

We’re heading presently towards an almighty crash.

No guts no glory. (Drop the ego)…

. . . No guts. NO FUTURE. Neville
