Dear Editor,

MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY

Isn’t the lesson from the White House building demolitions that we either cut down all of the bureaucracy we’ve cocooned ourselves within to protect our own interests or get the likes of leaders such as “wrecking ball” Trump to clear away the baby with the bathwater? (“Trump’s ballroom blitz is turning me into a NIMBY” Herald Opinion 30 Oct.)

We’ve been holding onto the past with white knuckle fear for far too long.
Time we planned the best future we possibly can.

That most surely involves individual and group courage and responsibility.

If we don’t make our own future others will do it for us…their way.

It is noted that I am starting to sound a bit 'pontifical' in my commentaries. I've said a number of times before that I write these blogs for my own benefit. I am reminding myself here that I can't change the world for the better. Getting my own house in order is where the focus needs to be.

It is very hard though to see so much swirling around us that is just so bonkers. Too much human silliness. As an artist it is frustrating to see the harm we are blindly doing to ourselves.

I remind myself that all I can do is enjoy my life to the best of my ability.

The rub-off is a positive contribution in itself.

Seems to be time to do another artwork.

I've spotted a run down and overgrown old 'fibro' house in the Western suburbs of Sydney that looks like it has a story to tell. (See pic) It will make a good subject for a painting.
