and their sense of entitlement
While waiting in a queue for a coffee a short while back my attention was drawn to the barista saying to a lady "There's a queue here". My permission was then sought from the barista for this lady to be served first. It was no problem for me. I was in no rush.
Looking at this person though she seemed in her own world.
I must say that she neither looked at me or acknowledged my courtesy.
And I do know her in a fashion from our paths crossing previously.
I thought it a bit strange.
Then after placing my order I followed this lady into an annexed area of the restaurant only to see her tittering to her two friends. She stopped abruptly when seeing me. That did upset me. It appeared she was celebrating her victory over the dupe in the line.
This in microcosm is what causes wars.

On leaving the coffee shop I said to the barista laughingly that the next time I saw this person I would say to her that "I just wanted to thank myself for the courtesy I showed you".
And I did a week or so later.
Her response was unexpected. She laughed. And it wasn't an angry or venom filled laugh. She went on to say. "Yes I was a bit out of it. I'd had a hard day and was carrying a feeling of entitlement. I was preoccupied and distracted". And she was like many today carrying round and round a head full of issues. It's called disconnection or distraction.
She went on to say "I'm sorry and do apologise".
At least she demonstrated some contriteness and could admit to herself that she was not taking responsibility for herself. Many don't and we wonder why there is so much discord in the world.
That attitude of entitlement and expectation of what we "think" we deserve can fuel World War III if we let it.
Celebrate life!
