Recently I tapped into a TV series that ran very successfully a few years back.
It was received with glowing reviews and it is only just now that I took the time to look in on the lives of the villagers of "Broadchurch". (Network 10 streaming)
OMG
This is certainly a well written and produced piece of art right down to the careful visual framing of each scene. The series clearly didn't hide away from some of the hot button topics in our world of present. All told through the micro lens of the coastal village of "Broadchurch".
All executed with great purpose.
Do these people know how to suffer or what?
But then I realised that this was only a reflection of the world that exists today.
Paedophilia, rape, sexism, pornography, grooming, suicide, deception, complexity, angst, misery, grief and all told so beautifully. And the writing really gets you thinking.
The moral complexities and ambiguities here could light many a heated debate.
If you really listen to what the characters are saying you can hear what a very confused world we have created.
The message of the series (at least for me) was that we are all so looking for love in our lives but are making a great cock up of our world because we aren't finding it anywhere we are looking. This unfulfilled search for love festers into, well, to be blunt, a kind of evil.
The people here don't know who they are. And in not knowing who they are listen to the rubbish going on in their heads and then this manifests into warped actions that only brings about great heaps of shite.
Fascinating TV to watch but horrifying to be reminded that this is going on now in our world.
When we know ourselves isn't it reasonable to deduce that many of the problems will go away? Isn't it chill pill time where we might stop, take a break from our busyness and reflect a little on what we've become and what we want to be? Perhaps even make a plan to move forward!
The new reality is the same as the old reality in that we are all totally responsible for every thought, deed, action and choice in our own existence. Pointing at others and projecting the responsibility is now officially dead in the water as regards the new world we are being made to address. But we'll continue to try to get away with it and our separation from our own nature will continue to grind us down in the process.
Presently I am observing (from arm's distance) silly games that someone I know is caught up in. The behaviours of more than some of those involved could be made into a "Broadchurch" kind of drama. But the subjects here are chips on shoulders, resentments, jealousies, people minding other peoples business, miscommunication, no communication, fantasy notions of territorial entitlement, greed, inhumane treatments of others, inhumane treatment of self, game playing. The list goes on and on. This is shock and awe stuff and it is just peoples day to day lives. Soap Opera (some just wallow in it.)
This is the currency of what many human lives are today.
We can choose to sort ourselves out or no doubt nature will do its thing and deal with it all in its own tried and true way of cleaning up. And nature will win. That is only a statement of commonsense reality. If things are out of balance things in the natural course correct themselves.
What are people doing wasting the precious gift of their lives? Humans are tricking themselves into robbing ourselves of our own life experience.
This is dumb.
"Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin' each night of his charms
That won't get you into his arms
So if you're lookin' to find love you can share
All you gotta do is hold him and kiss him and love him
And show him that you care..."
- Wishin' and hopin'
Song by Dusty Springfield (1964)
Note: The 'him' is YOO.
You've actually got to do something.
