What happened in America?
On the election evening in America I heard two commentators say very clearly that the American economy was sailing along quite well yet it was the “cost of living” that lost the Democrats the election.
I can’t reconcile those two statements.
So what is going on?
Are some benefitting from a healthy national economy at the exemption of the majority?
Are the masses perceptions of what they have and what they expect wildly out of balance?
Are people just unhappy and angry and blaming the cost of things?
Being an artist I’m the last person to even want to talk about economies but the economy that seems to be out of balance, not only in America but the whole world of present, is the wellness economy.
If people are “unwell’ then no matter how good the figures look in theory then perceptions will be skewed, unbalanced even crazy.
May I give you my artist’s big picture view please.
Human beings have through bad choices thrown themselves out of balance so that we are consuming the earths resources in an unsustainable way making the climate tenuous (that includes the human temperament). We think the material world is going to give us the happiness we seek. It isn't and it won’t. Happiness is not an attribute of matter.
More of everything can actually make you miserable. The problem is we’re lacking self awareness and as a follow on self discipline is lost on a world level.
Nature as a natural recourse will correct itself.
If we are not prepared or able to change then nature will do it for us.
Even the election of Donald Trump (Mr. Punchinello funny fellow) can be put in this category.
One of his favourite comments is about “draining the swamp” of a bureaucracy that is not performing. If those who are part of “the system” aren’t willing or able to change then nature throws up the aberration of the likes of a Donald Trump and the swamp gets drained. Quite painfully too. People lose their jobs. A convulsion of the existing system results. It clears the swamp but also the well being of even further numbers of people.
In Australia the bureaucracy is in the same boat as the Americans.
Honestly there are some Government bureaucracies (and too in the larger system generally) that are now well ripe for the broom of a Donald Trump like experience.
The other day it was suggested to me that I might apply to present some creative ideas for a major project being constructed presently in Australia.
It is a project at one of the major front doors to the country.
Honestly has our system totally lost it? You should have seen the process required to even just find out the information regarding the scope of the project. They wanted me to register firstly by setting up an account even to just get to the information for me to decided whether I wanted to do a submission. They literally had me going round in circles with SMS numbers…and that was just to get to the info.
Artists like simplicity and clarity but my God we are doing our darnedest to make it as difficult as possible for ourselves.
Where I have the choice I’m not wasting my time anymore with the time, energy and money wasting bureaucracy. I did not submit my ideas that might have potentially put the project mentioned into the world consciousness. (These sorts of things need the support of many but we are pushing away the baby along with the bathwater. And we wonder why our culture has become like eating cardboard?). Where is our courage?
Creativity has to protect itself from the human storm of ‘disconnection’ at large presently.
Do human beings even deserve to be happy?
This has become a valid question. Current behaviours suggest otherwise.
We are just begging for the same Trumpian style broom to be put through this Country.
And it will be most unwelcome.
This I think all has something to do with fear of change or embracing a way forward. We are either going to choose to make changes and become a more sustainable/balanced civilisation on the planet…or we may find ourselves writing ourselves out of existence as a species. Whoops!
Can you imagine the look on that buffoon Trump’s face if ever the gutter rat cunning of Putin were to send a pre-emptive shower of human nuclear stupidity across the home of the brave and the land of the free?
And Putin would do it if pushed.
A piece of wise advice given to me by the wonderful Late Luci Bucknell known as “The Lady of the Trees” many years past… "If you have to swallow a bitter pill then sugar coat it.”
All project managers (in fact everyone) please note that equals 90% give and 10% take.
Our world has those figures arse up in these times.
That's getting the world economy balanced.
Get all your bureaucracy and just shove… simplify & clarify it.
FOOTNOTE: Bob Woodward respected Watergate journalist said to ABC reporter Sarah Ferguson on the 7.30 Report quote that “We shouldn’t give up on American democracy”. Bob, too late.
