DO WE WANT A FAIR WORLD
OR NO WORLD AT ALL?
Sad Pierrot from the artwork
"OUR FUTURE: STOP, LOOK & LEAP" (under wraps)
He has reason to be sad.

SAD BUT BEAUTIFUL
Human ignorance is a very profound thing.
And there is so much of it in our world.
And when things get tough, again brought about by the sum of our own collective individual ignorances,
the ignorance becomes even louder.
I reference here the example of the six times re-elected 'community interest anchored'
City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore. I could though be referring to any 'real' leader.
A short while back I received the Lord Mayor's regular circular talking on the subject of the City Council having allowed businesses to utilise the footpaths outside their premises for more planters and greenery. Apparently there are those businesses who are overstepping the mark making it difficult for pedestrians to walk on the footpath without obstruction.
So the Lord Mayor has been receiving complaints from the public over these obstructions.
Enough of an issue to warrant her addressing the subject community wide. It seems Leaders are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Us humans don't seem to know what balance is.
But we certainly know what myopic self interest is.
Hot on the heels of this the populist right wing Sydney Daily Telegraph pages exploded with disagreement over the City of Sydney Council's decision with the use of gas and its impacts on quality of air issues. I'm not going to enter the debate about the pros and cons.
My focus is on those who will not bend to anything other than what is right for them.
There's plenty of that going on and in the face of everything we have been warned about with our climate not even one reform can be introduced without ignorant self serving interests screaming the house down.
Human beings will baulk at even the most basic concessions and/or misuse privilege for their own benefit. Do we have a death wish or is it just plain old self ignorance - the shadow?
And nothing but nothing is going to change those peoples views.
As a tour guide at the Sydney Opera House I talked for decades about what the Architect
JΓΈrn Utzon had to go through during the building of the icon. I distinctly remember as a child an Aunt echoing an attitude about the building while under construction that was shared by the greater whole nationwide. "What do we need an opera house for anyway?"
That Building ultimately put this Country on the world map and gave us a broader and deeper appreciation of our creative selves.
What we put Utzon through with our own collective ignorance could not be adequately expressed here. Ignorance again rearing its ugly head.
More recently the current US administration has been encouraging democratic countries under its influence to increase their defence spending. I heard a figure here in Australia from 2.5% of GDP increasing to 5% of GDP. A whopping increase of multi billions of dollars and yet our health and education sectors people are screaming out for more funding. Ignorance.
Hardly a whimper of complaint about the proposed increase in Defence spending.
You want to know why?
Because we are living in fear.
Looking at humans past behaviours if we equip ourselves with more armaments and the paraphernalia of war we will use them. IGNORANCE.
I just want to get on a soap box and shout that if we are going to increase "Defence" spending then the 2.5% increase should be defensively and consciously spent on peace building initiatives. Not waving a sabre of escalation but focussing on prevention rather than cure.
I'm talking about projects that connect us more with ourselves, each other and to our larger world environment. Projects that educate us on our own self worth and the value of our own humanity. Projects that remove our own self ignorance.
People don't take seriously my proposal for a WORLD EXPO/FAIR HOSTED HERE IN SYDNEY because they cannot see the value in it. Our values are skewed with IGNORANCE. We have to change the way we see and value things. If you focus on something it becomes the reality.
Focus on your shadow and your shadow becomes YOU.
And you might wonder why Pierrot a centrepiece figure from my major 2022 artwork titled...
'OUR FUTURE: STOP, LOOK & LEAP' is sad. He's looking through a world full of stupid IGNORANCE and is wanting to discover something more beautiful.
So what is beautiful amongst all of the sadness?
... That there are people like Clover Moore and JΓΈrn Utzon and I could go on to cite more human beings on the home front such as Jim Chalmers, Bill Shorten, Chris Minns, Allegra Spender, Alex Greenwich and plenty of others across the spectrum who rise above the ignorance. They are those who have put themselves out there in the rabid face of all the ignorant and actually do creative things in our World to make it a less ignorant place to BE.
Then on the world stage we have Volodymyr Zelenskyy showing himself to be a real leader of the free world. Just amazing.
How much courage does that man have?
All those mentioned previously are Celebrating life.
Their values and priorities are valorous.
They do what they do because they understand the value and importance

(Herald July 1 Take your pick of any number of articles). While understanding that interpretation is wide open as to who and what is “good” it might give us a bit more hope if the Herald perhaps consider championing reviews of individuals, endeavours, projects and efforts by those who are making creative contribution towards our collective well being. We need to hear more about the heroes of a brave new world in these seemingly increasing dark times.Thank you Herald people for your objective impartial insights.Kind regards, Neville Williams
