This is a difficult painting to decipher. The photo here doesn't help to clarify the work.

The artwork was awarded the Community Lawyers Art Prize (The CLAP)

at the 1993 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Community Art Exhibition.

The message here does have something to say about filling the darkness with light.

BONDI BRIDGE AS A BEACON OF LIGHT

Filling the emptiness of the dark with light now there’s a challenge.

Should there be sufficient support to retain the existing footbridge at Bondi Beach that has been such a focus of darkness then turning it into a beacon of light as has been suggested will surely be a challenge for the community as a whole.

But isn't that what our collective humanity needs to apply itself to do in our world at present?

One thing that is known for sure about the Jewish spirit is that when they say they are going to do something they most surely do. This Community has an almost unbridled strength and a passion that when filled with light can achieve the impossible.

Having said that those four existing sentinel lights on the footbridge do provide the basis of what symbolically could be a searchlight ~~to the heavens~~ within.

Symbols are well and good but firstly and most essentially we need to find the heart within inside ourselves. That's where the really hard work needs to happen for all of us.
