Dear Editor,

UNDERSTANDING THAT YOU ARE YOUR OWN LEADER

At least it can be said that the Labor Party is presenting a united front at a seriously fractious time in our lives.
(“Unity masks ALP’s struggle to hear voters” Sun Herald July 26, 2026)

But those who will get my vote are those who can send a message of hope that includes with great clarity that individually we all need to look inside ourselves for that hope. Individuals and political parties may well provide inspiration but ultimately it is up to us all as individuals to take responsibility for ourselves. That priority needs to be put on all our agendas.

That is a message that we don’t “want” to hear but absolutely “need” to hear.

Expecting that others are going to solve our problems is fantasy in this brave new world. There is a profoundly fundamental motivational difference in wanting and needing. One is about giving and the other is about taking.

Too many now believe that their taking is actually a form of giving. This needs to change if we want a civilisation to not only survive but to thrive rather than continue in decline. 

Productivity is the result of seeing that there is something worth actually contributing to. 

No hope no future.

We all need to be educated in that reality.

It is not an easy task to help evolve the set in stone mindset but this challenge will define who are the real leaders amongst us.
